She's Crafty: DIY pinboard & wipe off board

I've been wanting a pinboard and wipe off board for my kitchen since I moved in. However, I couldn't find anything I liked. What does one do in this situation? You make your own! Since the area where I wanted to hang these items up at is small, I had to think small(er).

Wipe Off Board:
I measured the scrapbook paper to the size of the glass.
Cut the scrapbook paper to fit.

Framed the scrapbook paper
Voila! A wipe off board for a very cheap price
(Note to self: purchase black dry erase markers not colorful ones)

Pinboard:
I measured the scrapbook paper to the glass (as seen above)
I then measured to see what size I should cut the ribbon.
I placed the scrapbook paper in front of the glass OR you could buy cork board
and cut it to the size you need (I was on a budget)

I placed four rows of ribbon going horizontal and placed three rows of ribbon
going vertical.
BAM - Your own little pinboard!

Items I used:

2 8x10 picture frames - $2.98
(I found a two pack at Target on clearance. I will eventually repaint the frames)
2 pieces of scrapbook paper - $2.00
1 spool of ribbon (on clearance) - $1.50

Project cost: $6.48

It was a graveyard smash

This is my first Halloween where I haven't been planning a costume for months. Halloween falls a week after my due date and at this rate this little dude could be overdue. Even though I can't dress up that isn't stopping me from wanting get into the spirit of Halloween. Since I'm still in the process of buying furniture and seeing where I like things placed, I wanted to keep the Halloween decorations simple. I also wanted to keep things cheap aka homemade. If you're decorating for Halloween or doing some Halloween baking, I highly recommend listening to the Halloween Party station on Pandora. It helps kick the mood up a notch!

I found this banner over at the Graphics Fairy. I added orange ribbon and decided
it would look best on my door.

I had a few Halloween prints that I printed out before I left for my maternity leave. I originally planned on putting them into $1 store frames but early maternity leave meant coming up with a "plan b". I had leftover card stock so I decided to paint the card stock black and once it was drying I glued on the prints.

I flipped the prints over and decided to use orange ribbon (that I found for 50 cents) and connect them.
It wasn't my ideal way of displaying these prints but desperate times sometimes call for a "plan b".
Besides, you can't beat only spending 50 cents on a project!

Last but not least.. The candy bucket for the trick-or-treaters.
It was only $2 at Target.

the best kind of housewarming party is a murder mystery party

In the beginning of this month my friends Roxy and James decided to have a housewarming party. Except it wasn't your typical housewarming party, It was a murder mystery party. I briefly mentioned this party back when I was deciding what I should give them as a housewarming present. Above are some photos of the invites that were sent out. In the invite each of us received a background on our character. There was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to fake a Jersey accent and tease the crap out of my hair!

One of the many reasons that makes Roxy amazing is her attention to detail. You can see what I'm talking about from the photos above. The invites were perfectly put together. Their apartment was perfectly decorated. The music that was playing fit with the party. They even had root beer for the 9 month pregnant mob daughter. It was the perfect party! Check out Roxy's blog bybun. She's a creative genius!

Below are my iPhone photos from the party.

Half of a can of hairspray was used on those teased locks.

Who did it?!

Need a sugar fix? Go to Louie Bottega.

I had this post ready to go months ago and who the hell knows what happened.

Have you heard of Louie Bottega? It's a very yummy restaurant and gourmet market in Downtown LA. Before I went on my maternity leave, I had the luxury of working just a few short blocks away. I never dined there but I frequented this place to get my sugar fix. They had numerous flavors of beautiful cupcakes and colorful macaroons to choose from. They also had all sorts of yummy tarts, etc. What else did I love about this place? The boxes you were given if you got something "to go". These photos were taken after I visited there for the first time back in the spring time.

I love how they put a mini macaroon on top of the cupcakes.

murder mystery housewarming gifts..

I wanted to create a gift tag that went along with the theme of the party. I found
the spider web scrolls here

I have to admit that I've been a bit "rusty" on getting creative with a lot of things lately. I'm going to blame being 9 months pregnant. When I got invited to one of my friend's housewarming parties (a Murder Mystery one at that!), I knew I couldn't show up empty handed with some lame present. I wanted the gift to somehow kinda fit in with the theme of the party.

Screw top wines are easy to open but they aren't my favorite. However,  I really liked the label.
Hopefully it doesn't taste bad.

I found this lovely dish towel (I have the same one in my kitchen) at World Market and
wrapped it around the wine bottle. Voila! Easy but cute housewarming present.

Since I really love Roxy & James, I felt that I should give them a little something else.
I bought two eco friendly sponges, Mrs. Meyers hand soap and 3 kitchen towels that matched the
dish towel I used above. I bought that mason jar awhile ago for the hell of it. I've also seen this
idea before on pinterest.

Everything fit perfectly in the mason jar.
I made the label with graphics I found here. I also found
a really cool font that looks like the letters are bleeding.
Perfect for a murder mystery themed housewarming party!

Fingers crossed my friends enjoyed the gifts. I had a lot of fun putting them together.
